The separate Daywright: Shift product page is retired. This policy remains for older installs. Shifts and pay estimates are now part of Daywright’s Work area.

Daywright: Shift

Privacy policy

Daywright: Shift is an iPhone app developed by Jason Grant for shift schedules, estimated earnings, and to-dos. This policy describes Shift specifically, including local storage, optional iCloud sync, Apple Watch, saved places, nearby to-dos, and Apple system features.

Shifts, pay records, and to-dos

Shift stores the shifts, actual hours, rates, overtime settings, templates, rotations, payment receipts, to-dos, notes, and preferences you enter on your device. The main data file uses iOS file protection. There is no Shift account or developer-operated content service. Optional iCloud sync sends the records described below to Apple; local use remains available with sync off.

Shift is a separate app with its own storage. It does not read or change the original Daywright app’s data, read device calendars, connect to your employer or bank, or import payroll records.

Optional iCloud sync

Sync is off by default and requires confirmation in Settings. When enabled, the app sends its selected records to your private iCloud database using Apple CloudKit. Data content is stored in CloudKit encrypted fields; record identifiers, revision and device-author identifiers, change timestamps, and deletion markers support synchronization.

Sync runs when the app opens, after saved changes while open, or when you choose Sync now. Offline changes wait locally. The app can retain conflicting versions for you to review. It pauses sync if the iCloud account changes. Turning sync off does not delete records already stored in iCloud. Apple’s privacy practices apply to iCloud processing.

Shift syncs to-dos and saved places, shifts and their recorded hours, rates and notes, templates, payment receipts, and pay settings. The shifts created by an applied rotation are included. Current location, device permissions, Watch drafts and pending commands, and device-specific display preferences are not part of these sync records.

Shift uses its own private iCloud database, separate from Daywright. Enabling sync never combines the two apps’ records.

Saved places, nearby to-dos, and arrival reminders

A saved place contains its name, address, coordinates, arrival radius, and arrival-reminder choice. It is stored with the to-do and can be included in optional iCloud sync. Place search uses Apple Maps only when you submit a search; your search text is sent to Apple. You can enter coordinates manually without searching.

With location permission, the app requests a current location to find nearby saved to-dos. It can refresh that location when you open the app or Nearby, or choose Refresh location. The current coordinate is kept temporarily in memory, is not written into the task database or sent to iCloud, and is not used to build a location history. Device permissions stay on that device.

Arrival reminders are optional for each to-do and require location and notification permissions. The app gives the operating system the saved place coordinates, radius, and a task identifier so it can deliver a local alert and reopen the task. Alert text says “Nearby to-do available” and excludes the task title and address. Arrival reminders do not require continuous location tracking by the app; the operating system determines delivery. You can remove the place, disable its arrival reminder, or change permissions in system settings.

Apple Watch

The paired phone sends a limited snapshot to the Watch through Apple WatchConnectivity. It includes task identifiers, titles, completion state, available task times, and freshness information. Nearby entries are selected using the phone’s recent location; the Watch does not receive the phone’s coordinates or saved-place addresses in this snapshot. Task notes and calendar-provider records are not included.

Captured titles and completion or undo requests are saved in a protected Watch queue until the phone confirms or rejects them. Captures become drafts on the phone and need an estimate and your save action before becoming to-dos. Device-local drafts, pending commands, and delivery receipts are not included in iCloud task sync.

Task titles can appear in the Watch app and the Next watch-face summary. The Watch app shares its snapshot with its own watch-face extension. The phone widget and Live Activity privacy switches do not hide Watch content. Apple controls connectivity and display timing; stale content and pending actions are identified in the companion.

Shift’s Watch snapshot also includes current and next shift identifiers, names, and start and end times. It excludes pay estimates, hourly rates, payment receipts, and shift notes. Shift names can be visible on Watch even when hidden in the phone’s widgets.

Widgets and Live Activities

Shift shares a limited local snapshot with its widget extension: scheduled times for a saved current or next shift, to-do counts, and information needed to keep the display current. Shift names and pay estimates are excluded by default. You may enable them in Settings. To-do titles, notes, hourly rates, and payment receipts are not included in the widget snapshot.

A manually started Live Activity uses scheduled shift times. Its shift name is hidden by default, and pay is not included. Widgets and Live Activities can be visible on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, subject to your Apple settings. Turning off a detail setting removes it from the app’s shared snapshot or updates the current activity; Apple controls screen presentation and refresh timing.

Siri, Shortcuts, and pasting text

Shift’s shortcuts open the app to a to-do draft, the next shift, or the pay period. They require device authentication and do not return private shift or pay text as a shortcut result. A supplied to-do title opens in a draft and is saved only when you choose Add. Apple’s Siri and Shortcuts settings and privacy practices govern how they handle your requests and any actions you connect.

Using Paste in a to-do draft copies the text you choose into the draft. It becomes part of local task data when you save.

Backups and your choices

Your device backup settings may include Shift data. Optional iCloud sync is separate from device backup and is not a historical backup service. Backups are handled by Apple or the backup method you choose.

You can edit or delete individual shifts, templates, to-dos, and payment records using the app’s controls. Deletions can propagate when sync is enabled. Turning sync off pauses transfers but does not erase existing iCloud records. Removing local app data does not erase the iCloud copy; manage iCloud storage separately through Apple. Shift does not offer a separate erase-all-cloud-data control. Removing the app’s data through iOS removes current local data; offloading can retain data, and older backups may remain. Manage those separately. The developer cannot remotely read, export, or erase records held only on your device.

Diagnostics and support

Shift includes no advertising or third-party analytics SDK and does not track you across apps or websites. Apple may provide diagnostics according to your sharing settings. For beta versions, TestFlight also handles diagnostics and feedback.

If you email support or send beta feedback, the developer receives your message and attachments. Send only what is needed for the issue; avoid private pay, shift, bank, or to-do details. Support information is used to respond and troubleshoot, not sold or used for marketing. Correspondence is kept only as needed to handle the request, retain a necessary support record, or meet applicable legal obligations. You can request access or deletion using the contact below.
