Common questions
Why does my app say the link service is disabled?
Limited-link controls require build 1.1 (12) or later. Update through the App Store. Builds 1.1 (11) and earlier retain basic text links without limits; choose “Create basic link without limits” after deselecting media. Plus or an active trial is required. Service capacity limits may pause creation or repeated downloads even in the new build.
Does Where TF track my things?
No. It remembers the name, place, and details you save. If you move a thing, update its saved place.
Do I need an account?
No separate Where TF account is required for the local library. Optional Apple services and StoreKit use your device and Apple account settings.
Does my library automatically sync?
No. Export a complete backup through Files when you want a copy. Choosing iCloud Drive as its destination does not turn on automatic app sync.
Is a backup encrypted?
No. A complete backup includes protected records and media and is unencrypted. Keep it somewhere you trust and control access to the exported file.
Can I share a household library?
No. In build 1.1 (12), Plus can create an encrypted independent copy of the selected name, place, notes, and media, with a 3- or 7-day expiry and an open limit. It does not create a shared or updating library.
How do Free and Plus work?
Free supports up to 15 items with one photo each, search and organization, protected items, and complete backup and import. Plus is a one-time upgrade for an unlimited library, added media, map and nearby tools, themes, and private links with selected media, expiry, and open limits. The lifetime upgrade is configured at a $9.99 US launch price; Apple shows your regional StoreKit price.
Will the trial charge or renew?
No. The zero-price trial lasts 72 hours, allows up to three private-link creations on that device, and does not renew or charge automatically. Saved data remains readable and complete backup remains available after it ends. TestFlight test builds use Apple’s sandbox purchase environment; App Store downloads use Apple’s live purchase environment.
Opening a shared item
You can keep viewing in the browser without installing Where TF. An available Open in WhereTF action continues with the same item in a compatible app. To keep a local copy, choose Add to my items, review it, then Save. An installation does not renew the link’s expiry or open allowance.
If you viewed the item before installation, keep that browser tab open and return to it afterward. Its admitted session lasts up to 30 minutes, bounded by the link’s expiry. If the link has expired, or your viewing session has ended and no opens remain, ask the sender for a new link.
Get in touch
Email [email protected] with “Where TF” in the subject. Describe what you tried, what happened, and your app and iOS versions.
Do not send private item details, media, or backups. A screenshot with sensitive content removed can help explain a layout problem.
